BRIT Awards 2018: the winners

It’s the triumph of Dua Lipa and Stormzy, Ed Sheeran wins only the Global Success Award

The 2018 Brit Awards marked the success of Dua Lipa and Stormzy: both artists won twice, beating BRITs favorite Ed Sheeran. The Shape of You singer and songwriter had four nominations, but he took home only the Global Success Award for the worldwide triumph of his album Divide. Dua Lipa won in the categories British Female Solo Artist and Best Breakthrough Act; Stormzy won two awards for British Male Solo Artist and British Album.

The ceremony, which took place yesterday at the O2 Arena, in London, will be remembered for his funny host, actor Jack Whitehall, and the great performances by Ed Sheeran, Rag’n’Bone Man and Jorja Smith, Justin Timberlake and Foo Fighters.

Gorillaz, Harry Styles and Kendrick Lamar are some of the other winners of the BRIT Awards 2018. Politics didn’t have the huge space we’ve seen in other recent awards ceremonies, however something happened: after a caustic introduction by Stormzy, who attacked Prime Minister Theresa May, Gorillaz’s acceptance speech for the British Group award was cut off after Damon Albarn started talking about Brexit.

Most of the BRITs attendees wore a white rose on the red carpet to show the music industry stands against sexual harassment, emulating what we saw at the recent Grammy Awards.

Here’s the full list of winners.
