Fitness: the best online contents to keep fit during lockdown

The top free and premium resources to workout wherever you are

In Italy we haven’t been able to run or workout at the gym for two months, due to the Coronavirus restrictions. Now we can run (choosing the right time to avoid the crowds) and gyms will reopen their doors on May 18, 2020, but… how is it going to be? How many people will be able to train in a closed space? I think less than I expect. If you like to move, you know that this is only one of the options you have to stay active.

So, if you haven’t done it before, it’s time to use the internet to workout from home. Here I put together some of my favorite online fitness resources for you to try, from free classes to paid subscriptions.

APPS

FitOn (Free and Premium)

FitOn is one of the best free apps I’ve ever tried. The free version will give you access to tons of workouts with some of the top trainers in the game like Christine Bullock, Jeanette Jenkins and Jennifer Johnson: you can choose from many activities from pilates to HIIT. The app includes personalized programs and challenges, you can track your progress on your personal profile and add your outdoor activities. The paid version includes extra Premium workouts and will give you access to Nutrition Plans and downloads.

Adidas Running by Runtastic (Free and Premium)

Old but gold. Since its debut in 2009, Runtastic has evolved becoming part of the Adidas family in 2015. If you are still allowed to run in your city, this is one of the best resources you can find online. With the free version you can monitor your running statistics, analyze your training patterns and get guidance and audio feedback from the customizable Voice Coach. If you purchase the Premium Membership you will unlock special features like marathon training plans and interval training sessions.

YOUTUBE FITNESS CHANNELS

Popsugar Fitness (Free)**

Popsugar has built one of the biggest online fitness communities, counting over 4 million subscribers on YouTube and 1 million on Instagram. Lead by their resident trainer and host Anna Renderer, Popsugar posts new workouts every week, most of them full length: from kickboxing to hip-hop classes, you will find something that you like for sure. Added value: this fitness channel features collaborations with many celebrity trainers like Kit Rich, Harley Pasternak, Christa DiPaolo, David Kirsch and other names behind the hottest bodies in Hollywood.

Barre3 (Free)**

If you like full body balanced workouts combining strength conditioning, cardio and barre moves, try Barre3: their YouTube channel features some great workouts that will leave you feeling strong and graceful. For some of them you’ll need minimum props like a ball or a pair of light dumbbells (or you can use small water bottles or bean cans instead), but others require no equipment.

Boho Beautiful (Free)**

Juliana Semenova and Mark Spicoluk are the work and life partners behind the success of Boho Beautiful, an amazing resource for pilates and yoga lovers. This young couple from Canada travels the world spreading awareness on veganism, mindfulness and yoga. Even if you’re not vegan (neither am I), there are two essential reasons to visit their channel: 1) their video-diaries deal with many interesting topics (from healthy lifestyle to climate change); 2) they film their pilates/yoga classes in the most beautiful places around the globe. Since we can’t travel outside our countries (I guess Juliana and Mark too are now filming in Canada), watching those beautiful places while we workout is the greatest gift we can give to our bodies and minds.

Alo Yoga/Alo Moves (Free)**

Alo is a yoga clothing brand based in L.A. Their official YouTube channels is full of free classes from some famous yoga teachers like Dylan Werner, Briohny Smyth and Patrick Beach. Alo also posts occasional barre, HIIT and pilates workouts. You can find contents for every level, from beginner to advanced.

*If you’re not allowed to run in your country, due to the Coronavirus emergency, you can find short workouts to do at home on the Adidas Runtastic YouTube channel.

**Popsugar, Barre3, Boho Beautiful and Alo also offer extra streaming classes, to paying subscribers, via their apps on Google Play and App Store: to learn more about Glow by Popsugar, Barre3, Boho Beautiful and Alo Moves visit their official Instagram pages.
