9 songs as good as your favorite series
How many times did you Shazammed your favorite TV shows to find a song that you really, really like? I do it all the times. My playlists are full of tracks taken from series I’ve watched or that I’m still watching. I’d have tons of songs to share with you, but I’ve decided to pick only 9 tracks that, somehow, perfectly match the shows they’re featured on.
Some of of them are recent finds (I had extra time during the lockdown to catch up on my favorite shows) and some are not.
These are 9 of my top music picks taken form the following TV series: Goliath, Killing Eve, The First, Baby, Altered Carbon, Too Old To Die Young, American Gods, Mr. Robot and True Detective. I hope you’re going to add these songs to your favorites or you use them to create a playlist of your own.
Des Rocs – Used To Darkness
As heard on: Goliath, Season 3 trailer.
Network: Amazon Prime Video
Notes: a great song to play in your car, riotous and energetic.
Paola Neri – Non Voglio Più Rivederti
Network: BBC America
As heard on: Killing Eve, Season 2.
Notes: the show turned this Italian song into an overnight sensation. Paola Neri addresses an ex singing “I don’t wanna see you again” in a desperate but sexy way.
Perfume Genius – My Body
Network: Hulu.
As heard on: The First.
Notes: an intriguing song which plays during a rave party to highlight an atmosphere of darkness and perdition.
Vitalic – Poison Lips
As heard on: Baby.
Network: Netflix
Notes: old, but gold. This 2009’s song from French DJ Vitalic was featured on the Italian TV show: it’s a modern disco tune with echoes of Donna Summer’s I’m In Love.
The Kills – Future Starts Slow
As heard on: Altered Carbon, Season 1.
Network: Netflix.
Notes: this indie gem plays during the final episode of the first season. It features an iconic riff that deserves your attention.
Roland Alphonso – Scambalena
As heard on: Too Old To Die Young
Network: Amazon Prime Video
Notes: many artists in the Sixties and the Seventies gave a rendition of this beautiful ska song, originally titled Magic Star. Nicholas Winding Refn loves contrasts and this version follows two characters as they discover a crime scene.
Dion – Runaround Sue
As heard on: American Gods, Season 1.
Network: Amazon Prime Video.
Notes: this catchy 1961’s tune blends doo-wop and rock’n’roll to tell a story of infidelity.
Saint Saviour – This Ain’t No Hymn
As heard on: Mr. Robot, Season 2.
Network: USA Network (now on Prime Video).
Notes: an electro music gem and also one of my top picks from the show with Rami Malek.
Algiers – Blood
As heard on: True Detective, Season 3.
Network: HBO.
Notes: this song plays during the closing titles of the first season of the show. It’s a captivating blend of soul, gospel and alternative rock.
